Back To School Program
Today, more than ever, schools require students to come prepared with more of the tools needed to succeed. If a student does not have those tools, they not only fall behind, but are faced with the additional stigma of being from a low-income family.

Most working poor and low-income families in Marin County spend the majority of their income for rent and have little left for basic necessities such as clothing, food, healthcare, and education. This program, along with our other services, provides parents with the security of knowing their child has the tools he or she needs to receive an education. Many low-income families simply do not have the income to purchase backpacks and school supplies for their children. Participation in the Back to School program has tripled since 2003, highlighting the great need that exists in our community.

The following is a list of school supplies that can be donated for this program:
  • New backpacks (boys and girls, high need for elementary school)
  • Binders (small/large) and binder paper
  • Tabbed dividers and zip pouches
  • Pencils (#2/colored), pens, and erasers
  • Glue sticks and index cards
  • Rulers, staplers, and small scissors
  • Markers, crayons, and highlighters
  • Pocket folders and spiral one-subject notebooks
  • Calculators (especially graphing calculators such as TI-83)
  • Geometry drafting sets
There is always a GREAT NEED for department store gift cards and cash donations
Ritter Center is also partnering with Renew Computers to provide as many refurbished computers and printers as possible to students. If you have a gently used computer that has a 1 Ghz processor or higher, you can take it directly to Renew Computers at 446 Du Bois Street in San Rafael.

Just tell them that the computer is for the Ritter Center. For more information of the Back to School program, please call Benjamin Leroi at 415.457.8182 ext. 106.
