Ritter Center Spotlight

In-kind Donations
Ritter Center accepts the following items year-round, Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm, at its location at 16 Ritter Street in San Rafael:
  • High-need food items: tuna fish, peanut butter, canned chili, Chunky-style soups, pasta, and pasta sauce
  • Toiletry items (small soaps, shampoos/conditioners, shaving cream, toothbrushes/toothpaste etc.)
  • Sleeping bags and blankets
  • Department store and grocery store gift cards
  • Paper shopping bags with handles for our food pantry

Additionally, Ritter Center operates seasonal programs that require a large number of in-kind donations from the community.

During Thanksgiving , Ritter Center collects frozen turkeys and grocery store gift cards to distribute to low-income families along with traditional side dishes to ensure that all families have a reason to be thankful during the holiday weekend.

The agency’s Family to Family Holiday Program allows generous community members and groups to “adopt” a less fortunate family for the winter holidays.  Donors can begin signing up for this program in October and then shops for their adopted family with a provided gift wish list.

In July through mid-August, Ritter Center collects backpacks, school supplies, and department store gift cards for its Back-to-School program which helps ensure that children start the school year prepared to learn and achieve scholastically.
